Chateau Montelena boasts vineyards spread across carefully selected slopes in Napa Valley, where each plot contributes to the character wines.
Cabernet Sauvignon grows on sunny slopes with well-drained soil combining volcanic and sedimentary components. Blocks at higher elevations give the wines firm structure, elegant tannins, and mineral nuances, while lower elevations produce fruitier, harmonious wines with rich black cherry and currant flavors.
Chardonnay has its place in Oak Knoll Vineyards, where loam and sedimentary soils, combined with cool nights, preserve fresh acidity and delicate aromatics. The result is elegant, citrusy wines with a delicate buttery quality and a mineral base.
Zinfandel grows on gently sloping parcels with volcanic and gravelly soils. Old vines produce concentrated, fruity, and spicy wines with soft tannins and a full body.
Smaller varieties, such as Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, and Petite Sirah, are planted in smaller blocks throughout the estate. These vineyards add aromatic depth, spicy notes, and harmonious structure to our blends.
Each parcel is unique due to its microclimate, elevation, and slope orientation, allowing for a balance between freshness, fruitiness, and complex structure. This terroir is at the heart of every Chateau Montelena wine.
