







The winery whose Chardonnay opened World to wines from California. Was established in 1882 and finished six years after by Alfred L. Tubbs, a pioneer of winamaking in California.
Tubbs family owned the winery till 1958. In early 1970´s it was bought by lawyer Jim Barrett, who invested to the winery his whole wealth. After a few years of hardship came year 1976. The Year. With a phenomenal success at Paris blind tasting, really well known as Judgment in Paris. The best professionals in wine tasted French and California wines in a blind tasting. The whole wine world was shocked from the results. Both whites and reds were won by California wineries. The white was legendary Chateau Montelena Chardonnay 1973. Since that time, the winery lives on a big wave of popularity which still continues.
Chateau Montelena is now under eye of Bo Barrett, son of Jim.
